HIDROSTANK supplies its solutions for Sustainable Urban Drainage Systems (SUDS) for the GIJÓN ECORESILIENTE project

HIDROSTANK recently supplied its HIDROCRATE infiltration boxes for a retention basin built in Gijón, as part of the initiatives included in GIJÓN ECORESILIENTE, a comprehensive project for the renaturalization of spaces and the improvement of connectivity between natural and urban habitats.

Gijón Ecoresiliente is a pioneering urban renaturalization initiative in Gijón, funded by European funds (NextGeneration), which seeks to transform neighborhoods such as La Calzada and Viesques into “sponge cities” through the creation of green squares, sustainable drainage (Stockholm System), and ecological corridors, with the aim of enhancing biodiversity and improving water management, thereby becoming a model of urban resilience in Spain.

HIDROSTANK has worked closely with the technical team from the contracted construction firm, to define the optimal solution for the 300 m³ retention capacity specified in the project.

The new HIDROCRATE attenuation crate, with its column-based design, has a high compressive strength and is easier to install than previous models. The modularity of the new generation of HIDROSTANK infiltration blocks, HIDROCRATE, makes it possible not only to optimise both transport and storage at the destination, but also to size the tanks according to the needs of each project.

These systems make a wide-ranging contribution to environmental protection, notably in the following areas:

  • improvement of the condition of rivers, lakes, etc. (by reducing the impact of potential overflows from sewer systems during heavy rainfall);
  • protection against floods and droughts;
  • adaptation to climate change by mitigating its impact (CO2 sinks);
  • reduction in energy consumption in the urban water cycle (use of stormwater, lower volume of water sent to treatment plants, less pumping, etc.);
  • enhancement of the value of water and green spaces (neighborhood transformation, improved biodiversity, quality of life, livability of cities, resilience, etc.).

GIJÓN ECORESILIENTE is a project of the City of Gijón. It is supported by the Biodiversity Foundation of the Ministry for Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge (MITECO) within the framework of the Recovery, Transformation, and Resilience Plan (PRTR), funded by the European Union – NextGenerationEU.
